The Story

Sitting by the window during a lightning storm. You hear the thunder roar as you see the flashes of lighting strike the earth. The sky lights up with each strike. You feel excitement, seeing each bolt shoot towards the earth. As excited as you are, you’re sitting out of harms way inside you room. Its cold and exciting outside, while its warm and cozy indoors. You feel a sense of comfort seeing the lightning bolts. The negative space between each strike seems more defined. You see the system of bolt across the night sky.

Aesthetics

Volt Lounge.50.png

The soft nature of the fabric insinuates comfort from within the story. The choice of metal reminds the user of the strength of nature and lightning

Looking up we see the negative space between each strike, bringing contrast and emphasizing each lightning bolt. I wanted to emulate the bolts coming down from the sky in a more minimal and collected form so I designed the backrest and the hanging supports to reflect that.

Looking at how lightning strikes interacts with the ground I designed the backrest to directly interact with the seat. We can see how the lightning leaves an impression in the earth. I took that inspiration and used it within the design by having the back rest make contact with the “ground” which in this case is the seating. I wanted to show some kind of reaction of the bolts striking the ground.
